A Model in Uncertain Times

If you haven’t yet heard Representative Elijah Cummings’ closing statements at the House Oversight Committee…you need to. Just after the hearing, CNN mentioned that you needed to hear his statements but failed to mention why. I have been looking for the redemptive response in the midst of the division and intensional schisms we have been experiencing locally and nationally. Here is our model.

No matter which side you land politically, which side you land morally, we must agree with Cummings when he says, “We as a nation are better than this!”

It is a simple invitation to not allow difficulties and failings to define us but rather to grow us. If we embrace our societal climate as the new status quo, then we are missing something vital to not only being human but being a nation that fights for a place where people have a voice, where we stand for integrity and for hope, where there can be dignity and wholeness, and where there is lasting viewpoint greater than just ourselves.

Simply this statement represents the opportunity to point ourselves, in any situation, to truth and to life. It is the statement that screams standing for a greater purpose. It represents for us a way in our current climate to turn together and together choose a different path forward.

This is our model of redemption in these uncertain times. Best sermon I have heard in a while. God have mercy on us.
