Living with Kingdom Expectation
Life rarely turns out the way we expected. Jesus invites us into Kingdom living whereby we get to tell about the Kingdom and we get to demonstrate the Kingdom in our lives. But how do we continue to live with this Kingdom expectation and not change our understanding of God to simply match our experiences? In this sermon I preached at Muskingum Valley Vineyard Church in Ohio, we find Peter in a similar situation after he didn’t follow Jesus like he imagined he would.
Beyond the Box
Often, things happen that are beyond our control, beyond our desires and beyond our imagination. Even though these things seem like they can derail our plans, we often see, like the early church, that God moves in these times, carrying the gospel in ways we wouldn’t have thought possible.
Never the Same
As we seek to discover our true identity, Paul in the New Testament reminds us of the foundation. Our identity rests in the best news we have ever heard. We were dead, now we have life. And it doesn’t end there.
Truth
One of the foundational drives of humanity is the search for truth. But what is truth? Does ultimate truth really exist? Can God really be true? There are many seasons in my life that I searched for ultimate truth. One day, I found Him.
The End is the Beginning
We have many ends in our lives. We have seasons that come to an end, times when we feel like we have just hit a wall and can’t go on, or dreams that seem to be over. We fear that the end is the end. But what we see is that the end is the beginning. We don’t know where the Lord will take us, but are we willing to go where God leads?
Persistant Prayer
Prayer can be very mysterious. Does it really make a difference if we pray? We hear stories of people’s prayers being answered. However, if we are honest, we have all experienced times when it seems like prayer is not making a difference. We find that God has a purpose in persisting in prayer that may be different than ours.
